Reading a General's Buffs: Flat vs Percent

Flat bonuses and percentage bonuses are not the same currency. Here is how they combine, and why a big flat number can be worth very little.

Two generals can advertise similar-looking numbers and deliver wildly different results, because Evony mixes flat bonuses and percentage bonuses that apply at different stages.

Where each one applies

  • Flat bonuses add to your base stat before percentages are applied.
  • Percentage bonuses multiply the running total – so they scale with everything else you have stacked.
  • A large flat bonus on a small base is meaningful; the same flat bonus on a maxed account is a rounding error.
This is why late-game players chase percentages and early-game players value flats: the same source is worth a different amount depending on how much base and how many multipliers you already have.

Convert to a common currency

The only fair way to compare two buff sources is to convert everything to its effective percentage contribution at your account’s stats. The calculator does the flat→percent conversion for you.
